Welcome to our network of alumni and friends -- a resource for ISU students entering the journalism profession.

Members of the Society:

  • provide information on internships and jobs
  • give tours of the workplace
  • serve as guest speakers on campus and through teleconferencing
  • host networking events

Formed in 2005 by the Greenlee School of Journalism, the organization is co-chaired by Caralee Johnson Adams, ’86, and Chris Adams, ’88. They are now building a network of alumni and friends in major cities across the country -- any place where ISU grads might land. The network and this Web site are expected to grow rapidly in coming months.

Our first events:

  • Des Moines: Monday, April 10, 2006 at Meredith Corporation. The 5-7 p.m. reception will be held in the Conference Core of the 1716 Locust Street Building. Guests are welcome to show up that evening (RSVP not necessary).
  • Washington D.C.: July 13, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at McClatchy Washington Bureau (formerly Knight Ridder Washington Bureau), 700 12th St. N.W., Suite 1000 (directly above Metro Center Metro Station). Guests include Michael Whiteford, dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Michael Bugeja, director of the Greenlee School.
  • Chicago: EVENT ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR NOV. 2 CANCELLED...

Our response to the proposed Chicago event wasn't as great as we'd hoped, so we've cancelled the Nov. 2 reception and are working hard to create an alumni list that is both wider and deeper than our current records. We know people are there, and we hope to come back to Chicago in 2007 with a packed alumni event. In the meantime, Barbara Mack will be in Chicago, meeting with select alumni to develop an active alumni committee.

To help out and get involved, email isu.greenlee.friends@verizon.net.

There is no cost to join the Society. It is not a fundraising organization. The focus is on reconnecting alumni and mentoring students. Eventually, the Society will have a database of members that students can access for professional advice.

Web site is still under construction -- so please check back in coming weeks.
